It all started back in 1959, deep in the heart of Brooklyn. Louis Steinberg was co-owner/operator of a local service station. His eldest son, Steven, worked in the service station as a technician. One day, a frequent service customer, a smoked fish distributor, found himself in a jam due to the breakdown of his delivery truck in upstate New York. The distributor asked Steven to borrow his service truck to complete his deliveries. In his desperation he offered to pay him a fair amount for the use of the vehicle. Steven agreed and it became a weekly routine for every Thursday. Eventually, a business formed from the need of local vendors to maintain their delivery schedules. Louis’s younger son, Alan, joined the fold as a sales representative in order to increase new business. This eventually led to the formation of a new partnership between the two brothers-Salem Truck Leasing. They opened their doors in 1965 to overwhelming success. Subsequently, their father sold his half of the partnership and joined them in their endeavors the following year.
With the team in place, the Steinbergs quickly launched Salem throughout the metropolitan area to provide its customers with a premier network of services. Salem Truck Leasing became the original founding member of Idealease of North America in 1982. Idealease is a nationwide network of truck leasing companies that share their services in unifying 365 locations with a fleet upwards of 40,000. Today, Alan and Steven’s sons, Scott, Craig and Jared, help to carry on the family tradition by playing major leadership roles within the company. Salem Truck Leasing retains its corporate headquarters in Brooklyn with six additional full-service locations spanning the Five Boroughs, Long Island and New Jersey, offering optimal accessibility and reliability for our customers…who always come first.
